Catch Surf Odysea Surfboard Review

At A Glance: Our Top Picks for Odysea Boards

Catch Surf has designed another winning surfboard, it’s called the “Odysea” and it one hell of a game-changer so you best keep reading!

Choosing Your Odysea Board

The Odysea Board is a soft top board that makes it ideal for beginners. Foam boards today offer more options when it comes to selecting a board. Soft tops come in both longboard and shortboard designs.

The key points that all surfers should consider when thinking of purchasing a surfboard is their height, weight, age, and fitness level. The surfer must also consider the condition of the beaches and the types of waves and his/her current says, “Your surfboard is a mirror of you, so pick one that is appropriate for the surfer you are now, not the one you want to become.”

Price is also a major consideration. For someone just learning to surf, the lower the price, the better. Your board is going to get banged up and nicked a lot while you are in the learning phase. Don’t buy an expensive board just to get it all beat up.

The potential buyer also needs to consider the performance of the surfboard. The three major surfboard companies have upgraded soft-tops to include safety features that beginning students need.

FAQ

Who needs to buy this board?

Whether you’re a seasoned surfer or skimboarder, or still new to the world of surfing, you can find endless ways to enjoy this board. Although the Odysea boards were made for those with a relatively good hold on surfing knowledge, it can also be used as an entry-level board that you can practice on before you get a traditional surfboard. Precaution must be thrown in the air, because these boards can be so much fun that you might never want to ride anything else again!

Who doesn’t need to buy this board?

If you are absolutely sure that beater boards aren’t your thing, then you can skip this page altogether and look for a board that suits your needs. However, if you haven’t decided on a direction for your surfing, you should definitely give the Odysea a try. It’s not a toy board, so don’t mistake these models for kiddie kick boards. They are serious surfboards built for serious fun in the surf.

Is the Odysea easy or difficult to learn on and ride?

Just like any other surfboard, learning how to ride the Odysea will take patience, dedication and time. Depending on the size you’re getting and the current surf skills you have, standing up and riding on this soft board will take more than the first try. An advantage the Odysea has over traditional surfboards is that it’s safe to practice on because of its soft material, and yet it’s also durable enough to withstand all types of conditions.

Is it worth the money?

If you have money to spare for an extra board, yes it is. However, if you’re still saving up for your one true board, you might want to postpone owning an Odysea board until you master the fundamentals on your other board.

What is the Odysea board best and known for?

The Odysea is known for getting you into steep waves and launching you high up in the air with ease. Depending on your skill level, you can perform all kinds of radical and progressive tricks on this board. Getting barreled on the Odysea is a one of a kind experience because your ride is so stable, you’re going to forget it’s made of foam!

What are the similar competitor boards out there?

There are other soft top board companies such as BZ and INT but they haven’t quite perfected the shoredump-shredding capabilities of the Odysea boards. Catch Surf is known to continuously push the envelope for beater type boards in terms of ride-ability, technology, material and style.

Does this board have fins?

You have the option to snap on some fins (see Odysea Safety-Edge Thruster and Quad Fin Sets) to your Odysea board, but you can always experiment and go fin-less like other beater boards! Not only do you get a board that helps you charge shore breaks, you also get a board that will let you diversify your surfing style.
