The Liquid Shredder Surfboard Review

Five Fantastic “Foamies”

Incredibly fun! Highly durable! Eye and wave catching!

Fast, streamlined and maneuverable are not typical words used to describe the average “foamie” surfboard. You don’t hear words like sleek, retro or hand-shaped either. However, when describing Liquid Shredder’s Foam Special Edition (FSE) Surfboards, these are exactly the words you would use. The shape, rail and rocker design is similar to fiberglass boards, and these qualities set the Liquid Shredder FSE boards apart from other foamies on the market!

Even better than fiberglass because they are more ding-resistant, these slick-bottomed boards can generate speed. The rubber sealed, flexible fins resist leakage, and the closed-cell foam construction resists water absorption. With excellent buoyancy, these boards catch waves easier. Because they are lightweight, you can be more agile and quick on a wave. Additionally, they come in a range of fun flashy colors!

If you’re just learning to surf, or if you’ve been surfing for a while and are looking to improve your skills, the Liquid Shredder FSE Surfboards are worth looking at. They are durable boards and even used in sanctioned surf competitions!

No matter the board length, the rail and rocker design of the Liquid Shredder FSE boards make them similar to fiberglass surfboards. The absolute best part is these boards are low-priced for their quality construction and perfect for first-time board buyers because they hold their resale value.

Here is a review Liquid Shredder’s five FSE Surfboards.

You can get through those slower sections and still maintain control in and out of your turns. A well-rounded nose gives this board a lot of stability when paddling.

Malibu Style

This is the classic shape for fun wave riding in all kinds of conditions. You get aspects of both a short and long board all in one.

The dimensions give tremendous stability whether you’re in slow mushy waves or fast heavy ones. The somewhat rounded nose is in between a pointed and full round nose.

The nose fullness helps with catching waves and keeping balanced, but may be a little harder to maneuver unless you’re back on the tail, hence the longboard aspect.

However, the short board aspect is the squash tail, which is edgy and angular, making the board very responsive and allowing for sharper, looser turns.

The wider tail has more surface area, which translates to more lift and ease of maintaining speed, is super handy for getting past slower wave sections. A squash tail also gives you more control in steeper and bigger waves.

  • Shape: Mini-Malibu fun board
  • Board weight: 10-pounds
  • Weight capacity: 95-140-pounds up to 190-pounds for more experienced riders
  • Best for: Beginner, Novice & Experienced surfers; 1-7’ waves

FAQ

Do I have to wax my foamie?

You don’t have to – the unique deck material is non-skid even when wet. However, it’s probably not a bad idea to apply a light coating of wax your first few surf sessions.

Are fins, spare parts and repair kits available for these boards?

Yes, original parts and replacements are available, obtained online directly through Liquid Shredder.

What kind of warranty do you get from Liquid Shredder?

Liquid Shredder guarantees the FSE boards reviewed here as well as their parts and accessories for 90-days from the date of purchase. If you buy directly from Liquid Shredder, there is no need to register the products(s), however if purchased elsewhere, you have 30-days to register the purchase.

Warranties do not cover boards damaged by impact or those neglected and left in extreme temperatures that compromise the material. Additionally, the warranty will cover the original purchaser and it is transferrable within 90-days to another person, should you sell the board, provided you supply the original and dated proof of purchase.

These boards do not come with leashes – how do I pick the right leash?

Your leash should be at least the length of your board. Too short a leash will cause you and the board to collide more. Verify if the specified length is just the leash length, or if it includes the cuff and rail saver.

For bigger waves, you want a longer, thicker leash, but both these factors create drag. Beginners might go with a thicker leash that is about 1-foot longer than the length of the board while more experienced riders can use a thinner leash about 6-inches longer than their board. If you compete, go with a thinner leash for less drag.

Most importantly, get a leash that has stainless steel swivels. You can a leash that has only one swivel, but serious surfers want a leash with two! Find a comfortable cuff with padding and a double wrap system. Cuffs come in all different sizes. One that is too big will have overlap on the wrap and will tend to circumnavigate your lower leg as you surf or come off altogether. Cuffs with key pockets are very handy. The rail saver may seem insignificant, but it’s not – while similar, rail savers differ in subtle ways, so take a good look at what you’re getting. Too thick and you have drag, too thin and you have no protection for your rails with the added worry of it snapping.

Finally, any leash will stretch with repeated use. Over time, inspect the stretched length of your leash – it may be that you need to shorten it up by replacing it!

Are foamie surfboards cool?

In the past, no – they labeled you as a beginner. However, foamies have come a long way in their shapes and designs. Nowadays, even experienced surfers enjoy riding foamies. On those tiny days when there’s only a hint of a wave, a longboard foamie is super fun. On bigger days, it’s a bonus when you can get into the waves earlier, and the foamie’s buoyancy lets you do just that!

The Verdict

The Choice is Yours!

The choice really depends upon your current wave riding abilities, your personal surfing goals, and your individual physique, specifically, height and weight. Further, you may want characteristics in a board that are suited for your home break – where you’ll do a majority of your surfing. Maybe you wish to travel more with your board or challenge your skills with learning new tricks. Whether it’s a step up or a step down in size, any of these boards will be fun to ride!
