Though Softub has moved on from its humble days as a small hot tub manufacturer from Los Angeles, this now-worldwide corporation still feels like a small company thanks to the killer customer service and consumer-focused designs.
They have three main model options for all different kinds of hot tub consumers, from their smaller, two-person tubs for intimate nights, or their larger six-person tubs that are perfect for when the party starts to pick up.
Unfortunately, picking a hot tub out can be difficult, especially with the lack of information that is online these days.
If you’re looking for a solid hot tub and you’re not sure whether Softub is right for you, make sure to stick around and check out our Softub reviews.
Our first model that we will be covering in our Softub hot tub reviews is the Sportster 140.
The Softub 140 is the perfect hot tub for someone who is looking to procure a more personal and intimate experience in their home. It is made to accommodate up to two adults. There are four adjustable jets, perfect for minimal customization, which allows you to find the best jet configuration for your specific needs.
The Sportster 140 runs about five feet in diameter, so it is also perfect for people who have space limitations on their property. As we all know, not everyone has a few acres in the backyard to spare. Plus, the tub comes at an entry-level price, so it is more than affordable for those who can’t spend thousands on a new tub.
The Sportster is made to be lightweight and portable, so you can install it just about anywhere. The tub uses Hydromate technology to keep it nice and clean. Some of the deluxe features include multi-colored LED underwater lighting, a deluxe folding lid with security locking straps, four customizable jets, and a soft, durable Polybond foam construction.
The Softub 220 was the very first model that Softub put out, and to this day, it continues to sell as their most popular model. It is made to accommodate up to four adults, though only runs six feet in diameter, making it a surprisingly portable option like the Sportster. There are five customizable jets onboard, which are very easy to adjust, so you shouldn’t have trouble finding your perfect position once you enter the chill zone.
The Legend 220 is made with very soft material so that no matter where you are sitting in the tub, you’ll feel incredibly comfortable and relaxed. The headrest areas are padded very nicely so that you’ll feel like you’re laying on a pillow when you tilt your head back.
It comes with Hydromate smart chip patented technology just like the Sportster, as well as the same multi-colored LED underwater lighting and deluxe folding lid with security locking straps. It comes in a wide variety of colors as well.
The Softub 300 is the largest in the series, and is designed for up to six adults. There is a therapy seat that is onboard, perfect for those who are seeking out the most premium option. It is the perfect hot tub for those that are looking to entertain. It runs about 6.5-feet in diameter, perfect for the party or the family, yet small enough to fit in tighter places.
Unlike the other two hot tubs that we’ve mentioned, this one is custom made with three inches of extra depth. This means that you can soak even deeper for the most comfortable hot tub experience possible. The therapy seat is there to help elevate your soaking position, perfect for when you are feeling sore and need to relax your muscles in an optimal manner. The strategically-placed jets on the Resort 300 pulsate along your upper and lower back.
As you guessed, the Softub Resort also comes with Hydromate smart chip patented technology, a deluxe folding lid with locking straps, and multi-colored LED underwater lighting.
The Softub Poseidon is one of the most powerful hot tubs in the lineup. If any hot tub takes hydrotherapy to the next level, it is definitely this one. It is designed atop a Resort 300 frame, though the Poseidon replaces a single standard jet with the higher-quality Poseidon jet. This jet can be controlled while you are sitting inside of your hot tub by simply twisting the face of the jet. You can also have all of the jets diverted to the Poseidon jet if you are looking to get the most pressure possible out of one jet. This creates an incredibly powerful therapeutic performance jet that outputs 100 volts of pure pleasure.
If you’re looking for a serious deep tissue massage, the Poseidon should definitely be on your list. When a simple attachment is added onboard, you can transform the tub into a whirlpool. It’s great for hot tub lovers who want to take advantage of the best hydrotherapy possible.
Like the other hot tubs on our list, the Poseidon model comes complete with Hydromate smart chip patented technology and a deluxe folding lid with locking straps. The underwater lighting is upgraded with dual LEDs and it comes with a therapy seat that is similar in design to the Resort 300.
So now that you have a good understanding of each of the Softub hot tubs, the next question you probably have is,
“How much do I have to pay if I want one of these things?”
The Sportster is the cheapest of the bunch, and it currently runs at $3,795. The Legend 220 runs right above the Sportster at $4,695. At the top of the number series lies the Resort 300, which goes for $5,395. Finally, at the top of the softub list is the Poseidon tub, which goes for $6,195.
As you can see, the Softub prices rise pretty incrementally, so you can expect small upgrades with every price increase.
Softub Consumer Reviews
We are not alone at highly recommending this brand. Here are a few Bullfrog Spas consumer reviews below:
Softub Dealers & For Sale
Unlike some hot tub brands that are on the market, Softub does not sell their hot tubs through their own channels, such as their website or storefront.
Instead, Softub has cut deals with dealers around the country that sell their hot tubs. If you want to find a Softub for sale, we recommend heading on over to their Dealer Finder and throwing your zip code in the find to locate a dealer that is in your area.
Softub Parts & Accessories
One of the best places to find Softub parts and Softub accessories is Softub Direct. Here you can find a variety of genuine Softub replacement and repair parts, including Hydropacks, covers, and more.
The dealer is local to California, though sells through their website as well, so you can order online.
If you’re looking for a Softub manual to help you with troubleshooting or just to learn a little bit more about your Softub, you can check out the Softub manual here. The beauty of Softub is that their hot tubs all operate on the same basic principles, so the manual works for all different models.
Hot tub covers can go pretty fast if not taken care of. Luckily, Softub Direct has a variety of different Softub cover and accessories to pick from, including vinyl cover lines, locking straps, cover inserts, replacement covers, and much more.
Softub hot tubs use special chlorinating granules for their hot tubs. You can buy this Softcare Chlorine at Softub Direct.
Not all Softub filters are made equal. Their filters have changed quite a bit over the years. Every Softub that was made after 2009 uses an 8553 filter number, while Softubs before 2009 use an 8555 filter number. These filters can be purchased at Softub Direct.
Without a pump, you’re pretty much out of luck. There are many different replacement pumps that can be purchased through the Spa Pumps and More site.
To get your Softub warranty up and running, you need to register your Softub online first. In terms of the type of warranty that you get, every Softub comes with a five-year warranty. You can read more about that warranty here.
Softub vs Hot Tub
There are plenty of reasons to purchase a Softub over a standard acrylic, hard-design hot tub. With Softubs, you don’t need to deal with any site preparation. All you need to set up your Softub is a level surface, while regular hot tubs require a more permanent location, which can sometimes require excavation or added construction.
Softubs can plug right into a household outlet. They even include a Ground Fault Indicator as well, so that you can make sure you’re plugging in safely. Other regular hot tubs usually require a 60 amp line with 220 volts.
Softubs are incredibly portable compared to regular tubs too. You can roll them through doorways or move them across the yard with ease, as they only weigh eighty pounds on average. Other hot tubs can weigh well over 400 pounds.
Lastly, Softubs are incredibly simple to operate using very little energy. In average 65-degree temperatures, you can heat a Softub to an optimal temperature with just 4 kw hours of electricity per day. Standard hot tubs usually require a separate heating element, which can cost anywhere from $40-75 per month.
Rotospa vs Softub
Rotospa hot tubs are a lot like Softubs in that they are portable and they do not require the same type of power that standard hot tubs do. The main difference with Rotospa tubs is that they are made with rotational molding. The shell is placed in a mold and is very strong, perfect for harsh-weather environments. We would highly recommend it over a Softub if you live in a place with harsher elements.
Softub vs Inflatable
Though Softubs are very lightweight, they are not inflatable. Softubs are made with a soft and squeezable polypropylene foam material that is covered with LeatherTex material. Inflatable tubs are typically made with some type of nylon material. While they are far more portable than Softubs, they are much more susceptible to damage due to harsher climates, as well as damage through puncturing.
Inflatable hot tubs are much cheaper on average though, so we highly recommend them for hot tub buyers that are on a budget.
One of the biggest issues with the Softub is that the filter sits on the inside of the tub instead of the exterior. While it’s not a huge deal, it does take up a bit of space on the inside of the tub.
Some people complain that Softub does not have as many dealers as they should have. Because they don’t sell online, many don’t have access to purchasing them.
There is no reason not to purchase a used Softub. As long as they are in good standing, they can work just as well as a brand new hot tub. We highly recommend heading on over to Nationwide Softspas if you are looking for refurbished Softubs. Of course, you won’t get the warranty you might want, though you can be sure that this original Softub dealer will provide you with a completely functioning tub.
The Hydropack in the Softub is very unique, so you’ll only be able to replace it if you can locate a dealer that sells them or repairs them, as Softub dealers will have technicians that are ready to help.
Of course, if you are having issues with your Hydropack leaking, we recommend heading on over to this link and follow the instructions to troubleshoot it.
Softubs are very easy durable, though things happen. The motor might break, the jets might need replacement, or you might just be dealing with some sort of aesthetic repair. While there are videos online showing you how to repair pieces of the tubs, we highly recommend getting in touch with a service center that can diagnose and repair whatever problem you have.
Because Softubs are easy to transport, you can simply take them apart to travel to your local service center, who will ship them back when they are done repairing it.
For those who don’t want to deal with third-party dealers, you’ll be happy to know that Costco sells Softubs. You can check out the Softub models that they sell on their website, or wait for a hot tub roadshow to come through your area so that you can purchase one in person.
Final Verdict - Should I Buy?
Overall, Softub is a fun and therapeutic hot tub that is economical, convenient, and incredibly portable, perfect for almost any space that you want to put it in.
It is easily one of the simplest hot tubs on the market, and it will last you for years.
While it may not have some of the fancy and luxurious features of some of the more high-end hot tubs on the market, it is a brand that you can definitely count on.
