Throwing ice in a bucket seems like a pretty simple task right?
Of course, give that task to YETI and you’ll have a product that takes the basic task to the highest level possible.
With our YETI Tank 45 review, we’re going to take you through what separates this big bucket from all others out there.
There’s no doubt that you have been to or hosted a party or BBQ where you have thrown all your cold drinks into a giant bucket or can with ice for people to dig through.
They usually get the job done for about an hour or so before all the ice begins melting and drinks get lost in the icy depths.
YETI saw the problem and took all of the positive qualities about their hard-shell coolers and put them in ice-bucket form.
Let’s dig a little deeper to find out more.
Why is the Price So High?
As with all of YETI’s other products, you must keep in mind that when you purchase them, you’re making a purchase that will give you the best performance on the market. This is like buying an iPhone X vs. a Razor phone. You’re getting the best of the best with YETI. When it comes to ice buckets, the YETI Tank 45 is easily one of the most expensive on the market considering most people would never spend more than 20 bucks on an ice bucket. While you could definitely go and grab a flimsy plastic one at your local grocery store, if you begin to think long term, it would make much more sense to invest in one like the YETI Tan that will give you durability, performance, and quality.
When you compare the YETI Tank 45 to other ice buckets on the market, it wins by a long shot. This is because of the tough-as-nails rotomolded construction, the rugged and leak-proof Vortex draining system, and the permafrost insulation that will keep your drinks ice cold all day. When you put all of these top features in conjunction with all of the other high-quality products and accessories that YETI offers, you have an ice bucket that is truly unmatched.
The thick walls that YETI has engineered are what make this bucket so great at retaining ice for long period of time. The thickness is evenly distributed around the circumference of the Tank and is made to be insulating and tough all at the same time. Thanks to the Rotomolded construction, it’s pretty much near indestructible as well.
The inside walls are injected with 2 inches worth of premium polyurethane insulation throughout. It essentially expands inside the walls of the cooler the same way you would insulate a house. Polyurethane can be seen in just about everything from surfboards to work boots and beyond. This permafrost insulation is pretty much unique to YETI and allows the Tank 45 to maintain the perfect amount of heat exchange so that you can have the best thermal balance throughout your party or BBQ.
Thanks to the “No-Sweat” Design, you also don’t have to worry about the bucket getting so cold that it builds up condensation on the outside, making it okay to use inside as well.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is the YETI Tank 45 good for?
Anyone who is into getting the best of certain types of products will no doubt be pleased with the YETI Tank 45. It is no doubt the best ice bucket out on the market these days. If you need an ice bucket to take the heat away from the gnarly summer, the YETI Tank 45 is a great choice. From weekend travelers to fishermen to backyard BBQ’ers, the YETI Tank 45 is extremely versatile. Even if you don’t need it to store ice in, it doubles as an excellent bucket for carrying heavy things around such as wood, tools, etc.
Is the YETI Tank 45 hard to transport?
One thing you should consider is that the Yeti Tank 45 does get a bit heavy when it is fully loaded up, so you can expect that it might be a bit difficult to move from place to place. We would never recommend filling it up completely if you are planning on taking it with you while full.
There are, however, many other beach coolers from YETI and other brands that we love that are far easier to travel with.
What Accessories Should I Purchase along with my YETI Tank 45?
YETI Cooler Tank Lid
We honestly don’t believe that the YETI Tank 45 is complete without the YETI Cooler Tank Lid. Not only is it a lid to keep your stuff enclosed, it doubles as a strong cutting board that is completely FDA Approved. It is constructed with a high-density polyethylene that is resistant to moisture as well, and it won’t release any nasty chemicals, even when put under more extreme conditions like heat or UV rays. The dimensions of the lid are 21” x 21” x 0.5” and it weighs about 9lbs, a bit heavy for a lid, though we honestly think it’s worth it if you’re carrying them separately. It also makes the Tank double as a small seat, perfect for if you take it to the beach or camping.
YETI Cooler Tank Caddy
The YETI Cooler Tank Caddy, just like the Cooler Tank Lid, is completely FDA approved and is also tough-as-nails. The caddy makes accessing your contents on the inside of your Tank easy, but still gives you a little room on top if you need to cut some limes or put your drink down for some dancing. The sliding opening makes for easy access and seals up when you’re done using it so that you can keep all of the cold air out. It comes in multiple colors as well, so you can mix and match to best fit the color of your Tank.
YETI Beverage Holder
If you want to keep your beverage within arms reach while you’re drinking the 3-day weekend away, you should no doubt pick up the YETI Beverage Holder. It mounts nicely on the side of your YETI Tank, and is also perfect for those who have the YETI Tundra or Roadie. It’s made of a durable, powder-coated stainless steel and it slides and latches on to the side of your Tank. It’s got a pretty wide circumference as well, so don’t worry if you’re rocking some big 30oz. tumbler either.
YETI Tank 45 vs. Tank 85
The TANK 45 is 13lbs when empty and can hold up to 52 cans of beer while the Tank 85 is 20lbs while empty and can hold up to an incredible 102 cans of beer. You’ll also notice that the 85 is much larger than the 45, and has outside dimensions of 25” x 19.5” x 19.2”. Other than that, both models are just about the same. Which one you buy really depends on the size of the party.
How is the YETI Tank 45 for fishing?
Absolutely! Tons of fishermen use YETI products because of how tough and reliable they are. If you’re planning on going crabbing, you’ll be happy to know that the Tank 45 can hold up to 25 standard blue crabs. If you’re just hitting the waters for some fresh fish, you’ll be glad to know that the Tank 45 can carry up to 12 standard mullet. Oysters for the BBQ anyone? The Tank 45 can easily carry a bushel for your extravaganza.
Does the YETI Tank 45 come with a warranty?
The YETI Tank 45 comes with the same warranty that all of YETI’s hard-shell coolers come with, which is a five-year limited warranty period. If you find that there is some sort of manufacturer error or defect while you are using it within those first five years, you can return it to YETI and get a new one sent to you for free! There are a few more conditions that go along with the warranty, and because it would be a lot to write about, we’ll direct you to their warranty page here.
The YETI Tank 45 is easily one of the most versatile ice buckets that is on the market and can do far more than just keep your beers cold for an hour or two. You can also get a Tank that matches your style with three choices of color including: Blue, White, and Tan.
Get one of these Tanks, and it will soon be the star of your next party or BBQ. For all of the premium qualities and functionality that this thing has, we have to give it no less than an A+.
They are great for parties, BBQs, tailgates, boating, picnics, or really whatever you can think of. Because they’re so tough, you can also use them to haul around things like firewood or fishing / camping gear too.
