Why is the Price So High?

The price can be a bit scary when you first look into getting a YETI cooler, though you must remember that these cooler are made with the most premium materials that are out on the market. While it might be a bit easier to go to your local super market so that you don’t spend a ton of money on what are easily some of the priciest hard-shell coolers on the market, what you would be missing out on would be the durability and performance.

Thanks to the fatwall design and one-piece rotomolded construction, YETI coolers are the most durable hard-shell coolers by far. When you think about their ice retention with their interlock lid system, permafrost insulation, and UV-protected outside, you have ice retention that can last up to multiple days at a time while keeping cool air in and the elements out. The YETI Tundra 105 might be a long-term investment, but it is one that we believe is totally worth it if you use your cooler a lot.

Insulation Performance

The YETI Tundra 105, along with all of the other hard-shell coolers, utilize fatwall builds. These fatwall walls are two-inches thick and wrap around the entirety of the coolers, providing all around protection and insulation. It’s not surprising to us in the least bit that many people have said that their Tundra coolers had kept their food cold for more than a week on their trips.

Secondly, you have your permafrost insulation that is within the hollow spaces of the two-inch thick fatwalls. The permafrost insulation is pretty much your standard polyurethane material, though they inject it into the fatwall to fill every nook and cranny. In a way, this permafrost insulation is similar to how your home is insulated, though a far more extreme version. It’s incredibly tough and resistant to water as well. Unfortunately, having these extremely thick walls does definitely make your cooler heavier, though it’s honestly a small price to pay for ice retention that is pretty much unmatched.

You also get the premium cold lock gasket, which is essentially a commercial-grade freezer gasket that is very thick. It is built into the cuts of the lid and helps to form to the outer rim to give the YETI a nice seal when you shut and latch it up.

Who Is This Cooler Perfect For?

The YETI Tundra 105 is best for someone who always has his or her hands on the top-of-the-line gear. It’s pretty much the best cooler of its size that you can find on the market.

If you need a serious cooler to help keep your food and drinks ice cold, even in the heat of summer, the YETI Tundra 105 will get the job done well.

Whether you’re a river rafter, weekend adventurer, fisherman, or lover of the outdoors, the YETI Tundra 105 is incredibly versatile and is built for all of that and more. Even if you don’t need to store cold things at the moment, the YETI Tundra works great as a regular storage unit too, and can easily hold a bunch of your gear.

YETI Tundra 105 vs. YETI Tundra 110

The first thing that you’ll notice between the YETI Tundra 105 and 110 is that they are different in shape and size. The 105 is made with a s lightly smaller footprint, though has more height to it, making it great for people who need that extra space in their boat, car, or truck. The YETI Tundra 110, however, is very wide, though not as tall, making it great for people who are into rafting.

The YETI Tundra 110 can hold up to 74 cans of beer or 90lbs of ice, while the YETI Tundra 105 can hold 62 cans of beer or 82lbs of ice. They are also only a few pounds different in weight from one another, the Tundra 105 being 36lbs and the Tundra 110 being 39lbs.

This means the major difference is how you will be transporting or storing them. If you need height for longneck bottles or taller contents, we would definitely go with the Tundra 105. If you need something with a low profile, the Tundra 110 is the way to go.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of accessories should I get for my YETI Tundra 105?

YETI has a wide variety of accessories for their line of hard-shell Tundra coolers. Depending on what you want or need for your cooler, YETI gives you the ability to completely customize it using their extra products. For starters, we would highly recommend the YETI dividers, as they are probably one of the most useful and unique YETI accessories. They basically slide into the grooves of the interior walls of your cooler, helping you to separate things like alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, drinks and perishables, etc. Because of the tough rubber-like material, you can even use them as little cutting boards when they are done organizing.

There’s no doubt that you’ll be using your YETI to store all of your beers at one point, so wouldn’t it make sense that you have a bottle opener on it at all times? This is where the little Retro Bottle Opener from YETI comes in handy. It is made of a durable, cast stainless steel and can be mounted just about anywhere on the body of your cooler with the included screws.

Lastly, we would highly recommend looking into getting some of YETI’s famous YETI Ice. Yes, the YETI Ice may look very similar to the little ice packs your mom put in your lunchbox as a kid, though they outperform them by a landslide. Unlike other cheap ice packs, these are made to be completely shatter-proof, making them just as durable as the YETI Tundra that you will be putting them in. While you can definitely use them as a substitute for ice instead of buying bags, we would highly recommend using them alongside your ice, as they can help to keep the ice frozen for longer periods of time.

Does the YETI Tundra have a warranty?

The YETI Tundra 105 comes with the same warranty that all hard-shell YETI coolers come with, which is a five-year limited warranty period. If you find that there is some sort of manufacturer error or defect within the first five years of using your cooler, you can return it to YETI and get a new one for free. There are a few more conditions to this than we need to mention, but you can find out more about it here.

Overall Rating

So now you know just about everything you need to about the YETI Tundra 110, though you may still be wondering how they hold up after real use. Well we can say that after using them for years, they are easily some of the best cooler around and really do everything they claim to do and more. Like we said before, you must remember that YETI coolers are a serious long-term investment. They may be a lot to purchase on the front end, though the reliability and durability that you get for years to come is completely unmatched.

The YETI Brand is pretty much the perfect example of a company that doesn’t ever try and cut corners, or make any sort of compromises, just to get away with selling cheap products for a ton of money. The one sort of negative thing that we could say about the YETI Tundra 105 is that it is very heavy compared to other hard-shell coolers on the market. If weight is something that is a deciding factor, this might be a problem, though if not, this cooler is an absolute A+. The YETI Tundra 105 will no doubt last you just about forever and we guarantee that attempting to find another one to match it would be nearly impossible.
